A man and his dog outside TK Maxx in New Cross. A hipster, orange wine in hand, chatting loudly in the street. Sights you might miss are inspirations for James Andrews
The London-based artist loves to skewer reality in caricature. Andrews’ first taste of the creative process came from skateboarding and graffiti. This early immersion in South London’s subcultures, navigating its streets and making art wherever possible, shapes his ability to capture the heartbeat of today. He’s thrilled by rough sketches, where ideas are raw, and his “hand feels like an extension of my brain... ultimate freedom on paper.”
It’s always his vehicle for communication, whether a large campaign or teaching his niece to draw. Andrews’ playful eye animates hard-edged campaigns, immortalising straining weightlifters, snooty baristas, and biker dudes awash in primary colours. It’s no wonder esteemed brands like Transport for London, McDonald's, and Apple are tapping him to chronicle modern culture. His ultimate dream? Create a space where the public can live alongside his work. An artist of the people.
“Clean design infused with Memphis style, comic book energy, and life's little details.”
“Having worked in design and advertising, I get client needs and processes. I can speak the language.”
I’d love to create a play ground/public space that people can interact with a live a long side my work and characters
